The 10th International Congress of Breast Cancer was held by the Motamed Cancer Institute on 23-25 October 2019. Payamed Co., the first and only independent manufacturer of mammography systems in Iran with over 20 years of experience and more than 450 mammography systems installed nationwide, attended the exhibition of this congress with the goal of fulfilling its social responsibility to raise awareness and promote women's health.
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed type of cancer and the leading cause of cancer deaths among women worldwide. The same is true in Iran, and almost a quarter of women with cancer are affected by this type.
Given that the incidence rate of breast cancer in Iran is increasing about 6% annually, the number of patients will double in the next 10 years. Almost half of the women with breast cancer in Iran are under 50 years. However, breast cancer is a treatable cancer.
Mammography is the most effective method for early detection and prevention of breast cancer. Unfortunately, due to the lack of routine screening programs in Iran and the lack of awareness among women about the necessity of doing mammography, many cases are not diagnosed or are diagnosed very late at high levels of disease progression.
